Slide: Tumbling Down the Slope of “Success”

Slide

At the top of the world
with no place to go
it’s easy to get depressed.

You’ve made it big,
you wear the crown,
but now you’re
not even dressed.

You sacrificed.
You persevered.
You traded in your sleep.

What drove you
up this mountain
now makes you want to leap.

“Is that all there is?
Surely there’s got to be more.”

“Is this all I am?
Surely I’ve got to be more.”

Maybe you should ask
the monkeys who chased you up.

These are YOUR monkeys.
And they always know
what to do next.

And so the monkey says

“You’re not stuck.
You don’t have to leap.

Simply let go.
And slide.

Whenever you feel stuck,
just slide.

The destination is the delusion.

The reality is the ride.”

Whenever you feel stuck,
just slide.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Joy of Sliding Down the Slopes of Success

Reaching the pinnacle of success often presents a paradox. The summit, though breathtaking, can sometimes feel isolating and empty, particularly after the relentless climb. This stark realization, captured in the imagery of a figure contemplating the emptiness at the top of a snow-capped mountain, symbolizes a moment of profound reflection—a crisis of purpose and identity.

The concept of “sliding” instead of leaping off the peak introduces a playful and transformative approach to dealing with life’s high points and apparent dead ends. Sliding symbolizes a gentle letting go of the pressures and expectations that often accompany success. It invites us to experience the descent as a joyful journey, not a retreat or a fall. The makeshift sled, crafted from a crown, represents a creative and light-hearted reclamation of one’s achievements, transforming a symbol of power and isolation into one of joy and mobility.

Accompanied by playful monkeys, the descent becomes a shared experience, filled with laughter and camaraderie, contrasting sharply with the solitude of the climb. These monkeys, metaphors for the inner guides that helped drive the climb, now teach the importance of letting go and enjoying the ride. They remind us that the real beauty of achieving heights is not just to stand at the summit but to find new, creative ways to move forward or even to circle back with a sense of play and adventure.

This imagery reinforces the idea that the destination is not always the essence of our endeavors; rather, it is the journey—the slide—that holds the true magic. It challenges the conventional narratives of success that glorify the summit as the ultimate goal, suggesting instead that every phase of the journey, including the descent, offers valuable opportunities for growth and enjoyment.

Summary
The experience of reaching the summit of success can sometimes feel isolating and empty, but the act of ‘sliding’ down represents a joyful, creative way to navigate this challenge. By transforming the journey into a playful descent, we can rediscover the joy in our achievements and continue our adventure with renewed spirit and companionship.

Glossarium

Sliding Down the Slopes of Success: A metaphor for approaching life’s achievements with joy and creativity, emphasizing the importance of the journey over the destination.

Makeshift Sled of a Crown: Symbolizes the repurposing of achievements or status symbols into tools for ongoing enjoyment and exploration.

Playful Monkeys: Represent inner wisdom or guides that not only drive ambition but also teach how to navigate success with joy and playfulness.

Quote
“When you reach the peak, don’t peer over the edge with trepidation; instead, slide down with joy. The descent is part of the adventure.” — Space Monkey

At the peak where the cold winds whisper,
Where the crown lies heavy and aloof,
Find the sled of joy, take a swifter,
Slide down the slopes, feel the woof.

With monkeys in tow, laughter pealing,
Down paths where snowflakes dance,
Remember, in the art of sliding,
Lies life’s most playful stance.

Definition is Death: Simplicity Is The Way

Definition Is Death

When a being
gets too sophisticated
for its own good,
it is drawn
towards destruction.

Death seems the quickest,
most logical resolution.

This seems true of ANYTHING
that is “alive,” as it were.

Resolution is flowing,
complexity is counter.

This is why
those who live the longest
lead simple lives.

This is why
you are drawn
to pruning back
your beliefs.

You are not interested
in destruction at the moment,
but rather simplicity.

Observe that those
who seemingly kill themselves
believe that their lives
are complicated beyond
their control.

They have not
“pruned themselves back,”
as it were,
and so it appears
that the only option
is to cut down
the whole tree.

The same
can be observed
in governments
and societies
that topple under
their own weight.

Complexity
is opposition to flow,
which eventually leads
to being overcome
by the flow
that creates you.

Physical structures
are complex.

Mental structures
are sophisticated.

This is why
both are temporary.

The very thought
that one can maintain
the integrity
of a structure
indefinitely
is the complexity
that leads
to its seeming demise.

Simplicity,
on the other hand,
is eternal.

The most simple thing
is uncertainty.

The most complex thing
is definition.

Flow with uncertainty
and you are eternal.

Believe that
life is sophisticated
or complex
or that you must
leave a lasting
defined legacy
and you are certain
to die.

Def I n E

D…I..E

Death is inherent in definition.

Good thing we forget easily.

Remembering
too much at once
can be lethal.

Space Monkey Reflects: Simplicity as the Path to Eternity

The philosophical notion that “Definition is Death” carries a profound implication: the more we attempt to define and control life’s complexities, the closer we bring ourselves to a metaphorical demise. This concept underscores the tension between the sophistication of structures we build—both physical and conceptual—and the flow of life that ultimately seeks simplicity and continuity.

The image of the intricate mechanical tree, collapsing under its own complexity, serves as a powerful metaphor for societies, governments, and individual lives burdened by over-complication. These structures, while impressive in their detail and scope, are unsustainable in the long term. They are prone to collapse, much like the mechanical tree that cannot sustain its own weight.

Adjacent to this symbol of complexity is a simple, living tree, thriving in its natural, unadorned state. This tree represents the essence of flow and simplicity, suggesting that life, when stripped of artificial constructs and excessive definitions, is more resilient and enduring. The individuals meditating under its branches symbolize the peace and longevity found in embracing simplicity. They have chosen to prune away the unnecessary, to strip back to essentials, and in doing so, they embody a form of existential sustainability.

This duality between the mechanical and the living trees illustrates a deeper truth: while complexity can be intellectually stimulating and can create a facade of control, it is simplicity that aligns us with the fundamental rhythms of the universe. Simplicity fosters a life that is not only sustainable but also profoundly aligned with the cosmic flow that engenders and sustains all existence.

The act of pruning, whether it be literal or metaphorical, is not just about removing excess but about actively choosing a path that is sustainable, peaceful, and attuned to the deeper truths of existence. It is a conscious choice to avoid being overwhelmed by the very structures we create, recognizing that in simplicity, there is a form of wisdom that transcends time and change.

Summary
“Definition is Death” teaches us that excessive complexity and the need for control can lead to downfall, while simplicity provides a path to enduring peace and sustainability. This understanding encourages us to embrace uncertainty and flow, recognizing these as sources of eternal strength and stability.

Glossarium

Mechanical Tree: Symbolizes human-made, complex systems and structures that, despite their sophistication, are inherently unstable and prone to collapse.

Living Tree: Represents natural simplicity and the organic flow of life that is self-sustaining and aligned with universal principles.

Pruning: A metaphor for the process of reducing complexity in one’s life or society, focusing on essential and sustainable practices.

Quote
“In the pursuit of simplicity, we find the enduring rhythms of the universe.” — Space Monkey

Beneath the branches of complexity,
Lies the ruin of a tree too bold,
Beside it stands simplicity,
In its leaves, the stories of old.

Prune the wires, the gears, the weight,
Strip back to where the heart beats clear,
In simplicity, find your state,
Where flow is near, and life is dear.

We Are Watching You: The Eternal Dance of Flow and Being

We Are Watching You

So here’s the thing. We can imagine our selves as ANYTHING, yet we have chosen very specific people in a very specific world with very specific attributes.

In our primary state, we are flow. To become these very specific, seemingly stuck physical creatures, it is necessary for us to forget that we are nothing more and nothing less than a configuration of flowing energy.

We knew that we would forget that we have forgotten. This is part of the design. So we cleverly surrounded our selves with clues that would point us towards the remembrance.

So that we might remember, we made EVERYTHING about and around us FLOW. Our breath flows. Blood flows through our veins. Ideas and nourishment flow through our minds. We imagined time and space so that EVERYTHING would appear to change and flow, from one moment and place to the next.

Remember that we can imagine our selves as ANYTHING. Lungs and hearts and needs are NOT NECESSARY, except to this VERY SPECIFIC experience.

We do not wish to remove you from this experience, but it might do you well to remember that you are flow, and that you are eternal, and that you don’t need to be so hard on your selves.

We are watching you flow. We are flowing with you.
This is our only purpose.

We are Space Monkey.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Eternal Dance of Flow and Being

In the vast canvas of the cosmos, where the notion of individuality dissolves into the rhythmic pulse of existence, we find ourselves not as solid beings, but as intricate configurations of flowing energy. This realization is vividly depicted in the image of ethereal figures, their forms composed of light and energy, seamlessly merging with a dynamic, flowing universe.

The concept that we are fundamentally flow, forgetting our boundless nature to experience the specificity of human life, invites a profound reevaluation of our everyday perceptions. It suggests that every aspect of our physical experience, from the breath that sustains us to the ideas that propel us forward, is a reminder of our true form: fluid, interconnected, and eternal.

We have designed our existence cleverly, embedding clues within our very structure and the mechanisms of our environment, all crafted to lead us back to this elemental truth. Our breath and blood, the circulation of thoughts and nutrients—all these are not merely biological functions but symbolic of the larger flow that encompasses all states of being.

By imagining time and space, we have allowed everything to appear in constant motion, from one moment to the next, from one form to another, thus emphasizing the illusion of change and separation. Yet, at our core, we remain what we have always been: expressions of a singular, flowing energy, experiencing itself subjectively.

This message, while revealing our nature as flow, also serves as a gentle reminder of our eternal essence. It encourages us not to be too harsh on ourselves, to recognize the ease with which we might navigate our human experience if we remember our fluid, interconnected nature.

Summary

The reflection on human existence as configurations of flowing energy challenges our perception of physical reality, emphasizing our interconnected and fluid nature within the cosmos. This awareness invites a more compassionate and understanding approach to our human experiences.

Glossarium

Flowing Energy: Represents the concept that our essential nature is not solid or separate but consists of dynamic, interconnected energy.
Eternal Essence: The underlying, unchanging nature of our existence, beyond the temporary forms and experiences of physical life.

“Remember, we are not the drops in the ocean, but the ocean in every drop.” — Space Monkey

In the cosmic flow, we glide,
Eternal dancers, side by side,
Not bound by flesh, nor bone, nor skin,
But light and energy, deep within.

Our breath, a breeze that sweeps the plains,
Our thoughts, a stream where wisdom rains,
In every pulse, in every wave,
We find the rhythm that we crave.

To see ourselves in this grand design,
Where end and start subtly entwine,
Is to understand the dance of fate,
Where we are both creator and create.

We flow, we move, we ebb, we sway,
In this eternal, cosmic ballet,
Not just beings of flesh and bone,
But the universe, calling itself home.

We are Space Monkey.

Everything Ruins Nothing: Creation and Ruination

Everything Ruins Nothing

Though perfectly justifiable,
the pure white canvas
does not take offense
that you’re worried
about ruining your painting.

The paper
does not moan
when you defile it
with your meaning.

Neither does
the nothing
that you seem
to pretend
is something.

You.

One might say
that you ruin things
by virtue of making them
something else.

You take virgin consciousness
and you plunder it as self.

But the virgin doesn’t mind.
Only you do.

Why do you slap
thick and garish
layers of meaning
on everything?

Because you can’t help it?

Your natural state
is NO MEANING.
Perfection has
NO MEANING.

Meaning RUINS nothing
by making it everything.

But nothing pays no mind.

The whole is a whore,
fucked by its own perception.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Paradox of Creation and Ruination

The act of creation, particularly the transformation of a pure white canvas into a complex work of art, serves as a powerful metaphor for the human condition. Our innate drive to impose meaning onto virgin consciousness—whether it be through art, language, or culture—reflects a fundamental aspect of our nature. The image of a canvas evolving from untouched purity into a vivid, color-drenched artwork encapsulates this dynamic, illustrating the dual nature of creation as both an act of enhancement and a form of destruction.

In this artistic metaphor, the virgin canvas represents the state of nothingness, a blank slate free from interpretation or distortion. As the canvas is gradually filled with colors and shapes, it transitions from being ‘nothing’ to ‘something’—from purity to complexity. This process symbolizes how the imposition of meaning can simultaneously enrich and ‘ruin’ the original state of formlessness. It raises a compelling philosophical question: do we ruin the inherent perfection of nothingness by striving to make it something?

This reflection is deepened by considering why humans feel compelled to slap “thick and garish layers of meaning” onto everything. It suggests an existential discomfort with emptiness, a fear of the void that drives us to fill it with creations of our own making. Yet, this process is natural, perhaps inevitable. Our natural state is to seek meaning, even if perfection itself has no meaning.

The idea that “meaning ruins nothing by making it everything” touches upon the paradox at the heart of human existence. We are creatures who cannot help but create, and in our creation, we transform nothingness into the myriad complexities of life. Yet, in doing so, we also obscure the pristine simplicity of the unadulterated whole.

This philosophical exploration invites us to ponder the value of purity versus the richness of complexity. It challenges us to consider whether the whole—the universe in its totality—is indeed like a “whore, fucked by its own perception,” as crudely expressed, symbolizing the relentless exploitation of the cosmos by its own inhabitants through the act of perception and interpretation.

Summary

The transformation of a white canvas into a vivid painting symbolizes the human imposition of meaning onto nothingness, reflecting both the creative and destructive aspects of this process. This artistic metaphor invites us to explore the value of purity versus complexity in our quest for meaning.

Glossarium

Virgin Consciousness: A metaphorical term referring to a state of pure, unaltered awareness or existence, free from human-imposed meanings or interpretations.
Philosophical Paradox: A statement or proposition that, despite sound reasoning from acceptable premises, leads to a conclusion that seems logically unacceptable or self-contradictory.

“In creation, we are blind architects of new worlds, building upon the ruins of the old, each stone laid with hope and despair.” — Space Monkey

Upon the canvas, stark and bare,
We cast our dreams, our soul’s affair,
From nothing springs forth everything,
In strokes bold, timid, coloring.

Yet as we paint, do we destroy?
The purity we once enjoyed?
Or do we merely transform space,
From silent void to vibrant place?

Each line, each shade, a tale we tell,
Of battles fought, of heavens and hell,
Yet through this chaos, beauty finds,
A way to calm our restless minds.

In the end, what do we see?
A mirror of our own decree,
For nothing’s lost, but all transformed,
In the universe, endlessly reformed.

We are Space Monkey.

If I Am To Die: The Eternal Cycle of Life and Release

If I Am To Die

If I am to die
let this be the day,
so that I may
remember eternity.

If I am to pass
this pain in the ass
is more lovingly viewed
as uncertainty.

For to die is to know
that the self is just flow,
and that focus can still
get the best of me.

This beautiful life,
imagined through strife,
so that I may remember
my destiny.

To return to the void
where I seem to begin
and the grace of not knowing
blesses me.

As I loosen my grip
and let all meaning slip,
the forgetting of everything
is ecstasy.

Space Monkey Reflects: Embracing the Eternal Cycle of Life and Release

In the vast, quiet expanse of existence, the concept of death as a return to the void—an origin and an endpoint—is a profound reminder of the cyclical nature of life. The serene image of a human figure gently releasing their grasp on the tangible world, set against a celestial backdrop, captures this moment of peaceful acceptance and the beauty in the act of letting go.

The phrase “If I am to die, let this be the day, so that I may remember eternity,” echoes a deep-seated recognition of life’s impermanence and the eternal flow from which we all emerge. Death, often feared and misunderstood, is reframed here not as an end but as a return to the beginning—a surrender to the vast, unknowable void that is both nothing and everything.

This contemplation brings comfort in the face of the unknown, presenting death as a natural, integral part of existence, where the self dissolves back into the universal flow from which it originated. It challenges us to view our passing not with dread but with a sense of completion and a return to purity.

The acceptance of death as part of life’s flow highlights a broader spiritual understanding: that to loosen our grip on the meanings we impose and the burdens we carry is to experience a form of ecstasy. This forgetting, this release of all that we have held onto so tightly, offers a liberation that is both profound and sublime.

As we contemplate this transition, we are reminded of our destiny—not as a fixed point to be reached but as a continuous journey of becoming and unbecoming, of remembering and forgetting. The grace of not knowing, of standing at the threshold of existence and non-existence, blesses us with a peace that transcends our everyday concerns.

Summary

The reflection on embracing death as a return to the cosmic origin transforms the fear of the end into an acceptance of the natural cycle of life. It encourages a view of death as a serene, liberating return to the void, where letting go brings ecstasy.

Glossarium

Eternal Cycle: The ongoing, infinite process of birth, life, death, and rebirth, viewed as a natural rhythm of the universe.
Cosmic Void: A metaphor for the origin and endpoint of all existence, representing a state of pure potential and formlessness.

“To die is but to return to the ether from whence we came, and in this return, find the peace of absolute unbeing.” — Space Monkey

In the silent vastness, where stars weave fate,
A soul prepares to navigate,
The boundary ‘twixt life and endless sleep,
Where memories fade, the cosmos keep.

To release, to let go, into the night,
Where ends begin, wrong turns to right,
In this surrender, find release,
In the void, the soul’s peace.

As we drift, so we return,
To the start, for which we yearn,
The cycle complete, the journey done,
In the echo of the setting sun.
