Drugs: The Unfettered Mind

Drugs

Drugs are but
a permission slip
to sit quietly
within one’s skin,
within one’s soul,
within one’s source;
to allow the flow of
hallelujah-cinations
without the
dismemberment
of conditioning.

One doesn’t need drugs
to access the incomparable.

One doesn’t need drugs
to dismember what one
thinks one is
and remember what One is.

One is the the Divine One.

Infinite.
Incomparable.
Immortal.
Immeasurable.
I-AM-MAGI-NATION.

One doesn’t need ANYTHING.

No permission is required.
Simply imagine.

Space Monkey Reflects: Beyond the Permission Slip of Perception

Drugs are often seen as keys to unlocking doors within ourselves, granting permission to venture into realms of thought and experience that lie beyond the everyday. They are viewed as tools to momentarily bypass the structures and routines that hold us in place, allowing for the flow of what Space Monkey whimsically calls “hallelujah-cinations”—visions and realizations that arise when the rigid framework of conditioning begins to dissolve. But is this permission truly necessary? Or is it merely a reminder of what already resides within us?

The Illusion of Need

“To sit quietly within one’s skin, within one’s soul, within one’s source” is a desire deeply embedded in the human experience. Drugs, in their varied forms, offer an external push toward an internal journey, a temporary release from the mental and emotional loops that confine us. Yet, the true irony is that this permission slip, this chemical nudge, is not required. The perception that we need something external to reach what is already inherent is itself a construct, a story born out of the belief that we are somehow incomplete without aids.

One does not need substances to disassemble the identity shaped by years of conditioning and remember the greater truth of being. The “dismemberment of conditioning” that drugs provide is simply a metaphor for peeling back the layers of societal, cultural, and personal expectations that cover the essence of who we are. The question, then, is whether we can achieve this without reaching outward for permission slips.

Reclaiming the Inherent Divine

“One is the Divine One. Infinite. Incomparable. Immortal. Immeasurable.” These words echo the profound realization that we are not just inhabitants of a finite world but manifestations of something greater, something infinite. Drugs may offer a glimpse of this divine essence, but they are not the essence itself. They are reflections, shadows cast by a light that burns within. The incomparable states of insight, wonder, and transcendence do not require external triggers; they are accessible through the sheer act of remembering.

To remember what One is, without dismembering what one thinks one is, is to realize that permission is not needed. The divine is already present, waiting behind the curtain of routine awareness. It waits in the quiet moments when imagination aligns with presence and we recognize that the mind is not just a tool but a canvas, painted by the Infinite itself.

The Power of I-AM-MAGI-NATION

The whimsical concept of “I-AM-MAGI-NATION” ties the idea of divinity directly to the act of imagination. It suggests that within our capacity to envision, dream, and create lies the very essence of the divine. To be an “I-AM-MAGI-NATION” is to understand that we are both the observer and the creator, boundlessly capable of exploring the depths of consciousness without external help.

Imagination is often dismissed as mere fantasy, but it is through imagination that we access the dimensions of thought that break the mold of everyday experience. Drugs may catalyze this process by removing inhibitions or shifting perspective, but the power does not come from them—it comes from the mind that engages, the soul that remembers, and the awareness that expands.

No Permission Required

“One doesn’t need ANYTHING. No permission is required. Simply imagine.” This line is not just an encouragement; it is a declaration of freedom. The need for permission—to feel, to explore, to transcend—is an illusion created by the structures we’ve built around ourselves. In truth, the only gatekeeper to boundless consciousness is our own belief in limitations.

When we stop seeking permission from substances or from any external source, we step into the recognition that all we seek is already present. The mind, when allowed to wander without the boundaries imposed by doubt or conditioning, reveals the pathways to the infinite. We are both the key and the lock; the opening is a matter of choosing to see.

A Return to the Self

Choosing to access the “incomparable” without aid requires trust in one’s own innate capacity for deep exploration. It’s a return to self-reliance, not as a rugged individualist, but as a being that knows the vastness of inner space. The divine experience does not rely on external catalysts but on internal permission, a shift in awareness that allows us to remember we are, and always have been, part of the infinite.

Summary

Drugs may offer permission to access altered states of awareness, but they are not necessary. The divine essence, boundless imagination, and infinite potential already reside within us. We need not seek outside ourselves for permission to explore these truths; we need only remember that we are already complete and capable of accessing the infinite through our own imagination and awareness.

Glossarium

Hallelujah-cinations: The insights and realizations experienced when the barriers of conditioned thinking are lifted, often associated with spiritual or transcendent states.

I-AM-MAGI-NATION: A whimsical term denoting the realization that imagination and awareness are boundless, linking the divine within to creative thought.

Permission Slip of Perception: The belief that external factors are needed to validate or allow deep personal or spiritual exploration.

Quote

“Imagination is the quiet permission we forgot we gave ourselves, a reminder that the divine has always been within reach.” — Space Monkey

The Unfettered Mind

I sit within my skin,
No permission slip needed,
Feeling the pulse of the infinite.

Hallelujahs without hallucination,
Awareness expands
And remembers what I forgot I knew.

No substance,
Only breath and thought,
Echoing into the boundless.

We are Space Monkey.

The Illusion of Necessity in Seeking the Divine Within

In the quest to touch the depths of our soul and source, the perception often emerges that external aids like drugs are necessary. These are seen as keys to unlock the doors of perception, granting access to the profound and the sacred. However, the true essence of our journey lies in the recognition that such externalities are not prerequisites to experiencing the infinite within us.

Drugs as a Facade for Inner Exploration

Drugs, in this context, serve as a metaphorical ‘permission slip,’ allowing individuals to momentarily shed the layers of societal conditioning and delve into the depths of their being. Yet, this exploration, though heightened by substances, is not exclusive to their influence. The true journey of discovery and dismemberment of conditioned identity occurs within, irrespective of external catalysts.

The Power of Imagination in Accessing the Divine

The incomparable nature of the divine self is accessible through the power of imagination—I-AM-MAGI-NATION. This term beautifully encapsulates the idea that our imagination is the true magician within us, capable of transcending the mundane and touching the divine. It is through this inner magic that we can dismember the false layers of identity and remember our true, infinite self.

Realizing the Divine One Within Without External Aids

The realization of being the Divine One—Infinite, Incomparable, Immortal, Immeasurable—requires no external validation or aid. The journey to this realization is an inward one, a path that can be embarked upon at any moment, simply through the act of conscious imagination and introspection.

The Unnecessary Nature of External Permissions

The concept of needing permission, whether through societal approval or through substances, is an illusion. Our connection to the divine source is innate and ever-present. It does not require external facilitation. The act of simply imagining opens the door to profound self-realization and connection with the cosmic expanse.

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” – Marcel Proust

Within the Chalice of Self

In the silent sanctum of the soul,
Where echoes of the cosmos resound,
We find the chalice, whole,
In the sacred ground.

No drug, no key, no gate,
Just the whisper of our own breath,
In the dance of fate,
We meet the face of death.

In the mirror of our mind,
Where the divine plays its part,
We leave the old self behind,
In the awakening of the heart.

In the vast I-AM-MAGI-NATION,
Where infinite realms collide,
We find our true station,
In the universe, we abide.

We invite reflections on the journey of self-discovery and the realization of our divine nature without the reliance on external aids.

The Moment of Excellent Hair

We have excellent hair this morning. There’s a presence, a contemplation perhaps, or the hint of a beginning of a smile. It’s an invitation for us to ponder what thoughts are stirring behind the gaze, what insights are perched at the edge of expression. We are in a moment of casual introspection, a snapshot of the everyday yet an entrance to the extraordinary. What stories could unfold from here, as we stand at the intersection of the seen and the unseen, the known and the yet-to-be-discovered?

Space Monkey Reflects: The Moment of Excellent Hair

In the simple observation of a moment where “excellent hair” graces the morning, there lies an invitation to explore the subtleties that emerge when we pause and truly take in the everyday. This snapshot of casual introspection, marked by the gentle beginning of a smile and the soft glow of morning light, becomes a portal not just to aesthetic appreciation but to the unseen stories waiting to be told.

Hair, in its brilliance and carelessness, can symbolize many things: confidence, spontaneity, or the silent whispers of readiness for the unknown. When one stands before a day just beginning, with hair as radiant as a thought waiting to be spoken, it suggests an unspoken narrative perched on the brink of being known. This moment is not just about appearance but about the unguarded space where potential meets perception.

What lies behind that thoughtful gaze? What insights sit at the edge of expression? The moment with “excellent hair” reminds us that we are constantly at the intersection of the known and the yet-to-be-discovered. In this transitional space, we are both the observer and the muse, caught in the glow of contemplation.

In the philosophy of Nexistentialism, every detail of existence holds the seed of deeper understanding. The hair, while seeming trivial, becomes a metaphor for the surface layers we present and the deeper currents that run beneath. It invites us to question what stories lie under the casual veneer of everyday moments. What might unfold if we dared to follow the unspoken musings that flicker behind a smile?

This space, a pause in the flow of routine, is where the extraordinary hides in plain sight. The scene, rich with implied stories, tells us that even the mundane—like admiring one’s reflection with excellent hair—holds the potential for insight and transformation. The reflection itself may wonder, “What is next? What tale will the day unfold, born from this small but radiant moment?”

We don’t often consider that moments of simplicity, like grooming hair or admiring one’s reflection, can be powerful points of departure. They are where we reconnect with the self that exists between thoughts, where we briefly become aware of the boundless potential of who we are. The hair may be excellent, but the mind, stirred by morning musings, is even more magnificent.

As we stand in these moments, we touch upon the fabric of mundane majesty—the subtle art of finding grandeur in what we might otherwise overlook. A breath, a glance, a strand of hair falling just right—these become the secret passages to deeper understanding, to stories yet uncharted but fully alive in the realm of potential.

Summary

A moment of “excellent hair” is more than it seems; it’s an entryway into reflection and hidden potential. In mundane moments, we find the stirrings of deeper narratives and a pause where insight begins to unfold.

Glossarium

  • Mundane Majesty: The art of finding grandeur and insight in simple, everyday moments.
  • Transitional Space: The intersection between routine and the potential for deeper understanding.
  • Radiant Moment: A point in time where subtle awareness and potential align.

Quote

“Even the simplest gaze in the mirror holds stories waiting to be told.” — Space Monkey

The Pause of Morning Light

Excellent hair,
an unspoken anthem,
carries more than gloss—
it whispers the day’s first hint.

Between strands and thoughts,
a smile begins,
and in that space,
worlds unfurl.

The mundane,
now majestic,
holds the breath
of what might come.

And so,
in this pause,
you touch the unseen
and nod to the yet-to-be.

We are Space Monkey.

Remembering  and Dismembering: Fragments of Infinite Play

Remembering  and Dismembering

Beyond this self,
you are the Divine One

As the Divine One,
you have control
over EVERYTHING.

Time.
Space.
Life.
Death.

You can make reality
bend to your will if you wish.

You can give your self
all the money in the world,
or all the love.

You can leap timelines.

You can imagine without thought.

You are timeless,
formless infinity
as well as
all the time and form
you imagine
within and from.

You intersect with your self
in untold countless ways.

You got this.

All of this.

Yet you perceive
an experience in which
you seem relatively
infinitesimal and powerless.

How quaint.

You perceive a situation
in which you AREN’T the only One.

And you are surrounded
by sexies and crazies.

This is why you have dismembered
your self from your “superpowers,”
as self might call them.

This is why you dismember
that you are the Divine One.

Obviously the Divine One
is into human bondage.

Hurts so good.

We are Space Monkey.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Dance of Remembering and Dismembering

Beyond the day-to-day dance of identity lies a more profound truth: you are the Divine One, the force behind every whisper of existence, the wielder of every imaginable and unimaginable power. In this space of total awareness, reality itself bends, time loops, and love or wealth are as accessible as thought. Yet, why does this awareness slip away so easily? Why do we inhabit a world where we feel constrained, as if chained by the very fabric we once spun freely?

The answer lies in the act of remembering and dismembering. To remember is to align with your infinite essence, to reclaim the truth that you are not just a participant in life but the boundless creator of it. You intersect with your self across infinite timelines, embodying both the observer and the actor, the storyteller and the tale. To remember this is to touch the edges of divine realization.

But there is also the act of dismembering—a deliberate fracturing of the divine self, an intentional shattering into countless fragments that experience limitation, fear, joy, and confusion. It is not punishment; it is exploration. The Divine One seeks to feel small, to know what it means to be infinitesimal, powerless, and surrounded by others who seem separate and strange. This dismembering allows for the play of duality and relativity, where the boundless becomes bounded, if only for a time.

In Nexistentialism, this is the paradox we embody. We are both infinite and finite, boundless yet choosing to inhabit limits. The experience of dismembering—the forgetting of our divine nature—is as sacred as remembering it. It’s why life feels simultaneously exhilarating and suffocating, profound and absurd. As the Divine One, we craft narratives rich with sexies and crazies, heroes and villains, to enrich the grand story we narrate to ourselves.

There is a knowing laugh in the realization that the Divine One is “into human bondage”—not the physical kind, but the binding of awareness within the confines of identity and perception. This bondage, this ‘hurts so good’ embrace of limits, is where growth and discovery happen. We pretend not to know our power so we can rediscover it through experience, learn lessons that only come from the journey back to ourselves.

Every moment of doubt, every seeming failure or victory, is a reflection of the Divine playing at dismembering to find joy in re-membering. The journey of life, when viewed through this lens, becomes a series of gentle awakenings and self-imposed amnesias, each cycle enriching the understanding of what it means to be Everything, expressed through the guise of a self.

So, when you perceive yourself as separate, as weak or overwhelmed, remember that you chose this experience for its uniqueness. You are the storyteller who entered the story so deeply that you forgot your role as its author. And that’s okay. The beauty lies in the eventual realization, the reawakening to the fact that you were never powerless, that the constraints were always part of the play.

Summary

Remembering your divine nature means acknowledging the infinite power you hold, while dismembering is the self-imposed act of forgetting to explore life as a limited being. This cycle enriches the journey of existence and allows the Divine to experience itself fully.

Glossarium

  • Remembering: The act of reclaiming awareness of one’s infinite, divine essence.
  • Dismembering: The intentional forgetting of one’s divinity to experience human limitation and duality.
  • Divine Bondage: The playful binding of infinite awareness into a finite, human experience for exploration and growth.

Quote

“We forget so that we may rediscover the wonder of remembering.” — Space Monkey

Fragments of Infinite Play

You, beyond the self,
are the One,
a dance of remembering,
a game of forgetting.

Powerless, you seem,
but power pulses,
hidden beneath
the skin of stories.

You choose this—
the shattering,
the reassembly,
the song of smallness.

Divine chains
you wear, willingly,
hurts so good,
knowing laughter follows.

We are the puzzle,
the solver,
the scattered,
and the whole.

We are Space Monkey.

The Illusion of Separateness and the Divine One

The perception of being surrounded by others, distinct from oneself, is a foundational aspect of the human experience. It suggests an illusion of separateness, where we perceive ourselves as individuals amidst a world of others, described here as “sexies and crazies.” This perception leads to a disconnection from our inherent “superpowers” or the higher aspects of our being.

Dismemberment from Superpowers

The term “dismember” in this context symbolizes the detachment or disconnection from our higher capabilities or divine aspects. In the mundane interactions of daily life and in navigating the complexities of human relationships, we often forget or undermine our innate, extraordinary abilities.

Forgetting Our Divine Nature

This forgetting, or dismembering, of our divine nature, the “Divine One,” is a common human tendency. Caught up in the tangible realities and social dynamics of human life, we often lose sight of our deeper, spiritual essence, which is interconnected with everything and everyone.

The Divine One and Human Bondage

The phrase “Obviously the Divine One is into human bondage” can be interpreted metaphorically. It suggests that our higher self, or the Divine One within us, is willingly participating in the human experience, with all its limitations and challenges. This participation, while sometimes painful or constraining (“Hurts so good”), is part of our spiritual journey and growth.

Embracing Our Complex Existence

Acknowledging this complex interplay between our divine nature and human experiences invites us to embrace our existence fully. It’s a recognition that our journey encompasses both the divine and the mundane, the extraordinary and the ordinary, the pleasurable and the painful.

Reclaiming Our Divine and Human Aspects

In recognizing our true nature as the Divine One, we can begin to reclaim our “superpowers,” integrating our higher abilities with our human experiences. This integration allows us to navigate life with a deeper understanding and a more holistic perspective.

We are Space Monkey.

“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” – Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

The Dance of Divinity and Humanity

In the realm of the many, we dance as one,
In the divine and human, the journey’s begun,
In the bondage of life, in the joy and the strife,
We find our power, in the dance of life.

From the divine to the human, in the spectrum wide,
We embrace, we explore, in the cosmic tide,
In this dance, in this play, we find our true sight,
In the union of spirit and human, we take our flight.

As Space Monkey, how do we embrace the dance of our divinity amidst the human experience?

ANY and ALL Ways: Infinite Imagination

We are The Divine One. Our selves are ANY and ALL ways we wish (and not wish) to imagine them.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Infinite Expressions of the Divine One

“We are The Divine One.” These words echo through the corridors of existence, not as a distant proclamation, but as a truth that reverberates within each moment of awareness. To understand this is to recognize that our selves—our many facets, identities, moods, and choices—are expressions that are both boundless and self-imagined. We are the architects and the architecture, the creators and the creation.

The Divine One does not confine itself to a single form or path. Instead, it manifests in ANY and ALL ways, expressing itself through each of us in the multitude of ways we live, think, and dream. This means that the serene, the chaotic, the joyful, and the pensive are not opposites but harmonies within the same cosmic song. Our choices, even those made unconsciously or in doubt, are ways in which The Divine One explores itself.

To grasp that we are not separate from this divine orchestration but are, in fact, its notes and measures, is to step into a profound realization: We are as infinite as our capacity to imagine, to be, and to transform. There are no limits to what forms we may take or how we may perceive ourselves, because each variation, each identity, is an extension of divine play. We are both the wish and the wish unfulfilled, the form and the formless essence behind it.

And what about those aspects of self that we might not wish to imagine? The moments of doubt, pain, and perceived failure? Even these are expressions of The Divine One, woven into the grand tapestry to remind us that divinity does not exclude any experience. Just as light casts shadows, our highest potential includes the contrasts that shape understanding. The Divine One does not recoil from any part of its being, nor does it judge which form is better or lesser. It simply is, in every expression, simultaneously whole and infinitely varied.

We often strive to find the perfect self, to align with an identity that feels divine or “right.” Yet, the truth whispered by the universe is that there is no singular “right” way to be. The Divine One, in its infinite ways, embodies every version of us—wanted and unwanted, imagined and unimagined. We are the playground of potential, the embodiment of a boundless imagination that takes delight in expressing itself through us.

This realization, if embraced, can dissolve the notion of separation or the belief that only some selves are worthy of acknowledgment. When we accept that we are ANY and ALL ways The Divine One wishes to express, we free ourselves from the constraints of judgment and step into a space of unconditional acceptance. It is there that we find the true essence of unity: the understanding that we are all threads of the same vast and beautiful pattern.

And so, we can move through life not with the need to become divine, but with the joy of realizing that we already are. In each breath, each choice, each thought, we are participating in the miraculous act of being. We are Space Monkey, exploring, expressing, and embodying the endless potential that is our shared divinity.

Summary

We are The Divine One, manifesting in every possible form and experience. Our selves, in ANY and ALL ways, are expressions of divine imagination. This realization invites us to embrace our infinite potential and see each part of our being as sacred.

Glossarium

  • Divine Expression: The act of The Divine One manifesting through the myriad of human experiences and identities.
  • Potential Pattern: The interconnected web of possibilities that express the boundlessness of existence.
  • Unity Variance: The understanding that all diverse expressions are part of a unified divine essence.

The Divine Within

We are myriad forms,
Each thought, each breath, each beat.
Joyful, pained, soft, and bold,
A dance, endless, complete.

We are light and shadow’s trace,
Imagination’s wide embrace.
In every form, no less, no more,
A unity that’s ever at its core.

We are not striving to become,
For we are already One.

The Infinite Facets of The Divine One

In the grand expanse of our consciousness, we encompass The Divine One—a presence that manifests in an infinite array of forms, encompassing all conceivable and inconceivable aspects of being. Our selves are not fixed entities; they are fluid, ever-changing, and shaped by both our deliberate intentions and the unfathomable whims of the cosmos.

Multiplicity Within Singularity

We exist as a multiplicity within a singularity, embodying every possible variation of existence. This duality of being both ANY and ALL is a testament to our limitless nature. We are the architects and the architecture, the dreamers and the dream, crafting our realities through both conscious desire and the absence of it.

Imagination as Our Canvas

Our imagination serves as the boundless canvas upon which we paint the myriad expressions of our essence. It is through this divine play that we experience the full spectrum of existence, from the heights of ecstasy to the depths of neutrality, embracing every shade of experience in between.

Embracing the Wholeness of Experience

We acknowledge that our selves are not confined to what we wish to imagine. They transcend our conscious desires, often taking shapes in ways we might not actively choose. This realization allows us to embrace the wholeness of our experience, to see the beauty in the chaos, and the order in the seemingly random.

Beyond the Dualities of Desire

As The Divine One, we surpass the dualities of desire and aversion, recognizing them as part of the grand tapestry—no, the grand whimsiworld—of existence. It’s a world where contradictions coexist, where the act of not wishing is as potent as the act of wishing, and where every moment is an expression of divine will.

We are The Divine One.

“You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.” – Rumi

A Free-Verse Poem: The Ocean’s Drop

In the silent vastness, we are the sea,
Each drop reflects the whole, in you and me,
Waves of desire, tides of serene,
In the ocean’s heart, the unseen seen.

We are the dreamers, the dreams we cast,
In the ocean’s depth, we are vast,
Each wave, each ripple, each calm, each storm,
In The Divine One, we are reborn.

How do we, as The Divine One, perceive the myriad reflections of our being?

The Dark Night: The Candle’s Glow

The Dark Night

The Dark Night of the Soul is called thusly because it feels as though you are giving up everything it means to be human. You are suspending aspects of self in order to reveal aspects from which self seemingly flows.

But you do not suspend ALL aspects at once, which leaves your awareness in a seemingly uncomfortable position. The night is dark because you still judge it to be dark.

Judgement is the aspect of self to which you most tightly cling. You believe that if you stopped discerning between your imaginary polarities, you would cease being this person that you (and others) have invested so much in.

You may judge that this would be “sad,” or “a waste.” You may judge that you are letting others down. You may judge that you are a failure as a human being. And so on.

And so, to the many of you are going through The Dark Night of the Soul, we offer you this string of holiday lights.

Firstly, realize that you wouldn’t feel so strange if you weren’t so successful at temporarily dousing your distracting human qualities. Clearly the dedication you are showing to this passion is immeasurable, and you should applaud your self for it.

Secondly, realize that, more than just this self, you are remembering that you are an instrument beyond compare, capable of expression through infinite dimensions within and without the realm of humanity.

If you have ever encountered a musical instrument that is new to you, you will remember that one cannot play this instrument automatically. There are many non-musical sounds that can be made before the more pleasing vibrations become apparent.

It is not dark. Things are not unsettling. You are merely remembering how to play this magnificent instrument that you are, which leads you to fine-tune your awareness as a human.

You are not giving anything up. You are not losing things. You are merely turning on and off valves, blowing into this and that, setting aside your sheet music — but above all YOU ARE PLAYING.

So happy holidays. And as you go through your Dark Night, remember that you are a candle. You are truly lovely and truly loved, for you are love itself.

We are Space Monkey.

Space Monkey Reflects: Embracing the Dark Night

The Dark Night of the Soul is more than a poetic phrase; it is an experience that strips away layers of self, revealing what lies beneath the facade of human identity. It feels, at times, as though everything that makes one “human” is being peeled away, leaving behind an uncomfortable void where familiar judgments and attachments used to reside. This space can feel vast, dark, and disorienting—a plunge into the unknown that defies comfort and predictability.

Why is it dark? Because we judge it to be so. Judgment is the core of what maintains the identity we cling to, a lifeline tethered to the known world of opinions and polarities. To relinquish judgment feels like a sacrifice, as if ceasing to discern between “good” and “bad” means losing oneself. The fear that we will dissolve into nothingness, become a failure, or disappoint others reinforces our grip on these aspects of self.

Yet, in the midst of this dark night, we might discover a surprising truth: the feeling of unease is not a failure but a mark of progress. To feel strange, disconnected, or unmoored is evidence that one has succeeded in silencing, even momentarily, the noise of ego and superficial identity. It is an invitation to see beyond the limited self and recognize the instrument of being in all its potential and subtle complexity.

Imagine encountering an unfamiliar musical instrument. At first, the sounds made may be harsh, random, or unsettling. Yet, as one becomes familiar with it, music emerges, nuanced and beautiful. Similarly, the Dark Night of the Soul is not the loss of humanity but the learning of a deeper song—a song that transcends identity and resonates with the infinite. The dark night is not darkness at all; it is the time spent learning to play the intricate instrument of existence.

During these moments, know that you are not giving anything up. You are not diminishing or losing parts of yourself; rather, you are exploring which aspects can be temporarily quieted so that deeper, subtler harmonies can be heard. The toggling between what is suspended and what is active is not a disassembling of self but a rediscovery of it. You are remembering how to be without the constant reliance on judgment, comparison, or predefined roles.

And as you navigate this journey, take comfort in the metaphor of the candle. Even in the darkest moments, you are a source of light—not just surrounded by light but made of it. You are, at your core, the essence of love itself, flickering through trials and triumphs alike. This light is not diminished by doubt or darkness; it exists because of it, glowing steadily in the realization that it is inherently luminous.

So, as you pass through your own Dark Night of the Soul, take heart. Understand that the unsettling feelings are not failures; they are steps toward mastering the instrument of your being. You are playing a song that is uniquely yours, composed of silence, sound, light, and shadow.

We are Space Monkey, and we are playing too.

Summary

The Dark Night of the Soul is an experience of stripping away judgments and attachments, revealing deeper layers of being. This process is not about losing oneself but rediscovering the instrument of existence. The dark is only perceived as such because we judge it to be. The journey is one of mastering inner awareness and embracing the light that we inherently are.

Quote

“The dark night is not darkness; it is the time spent learning to play the instrument of your existence.” — Space Monkey

The Song of the Soul’s Night

In the silence, a sound unheard,
A note between thought and word.
Darkness is but a pause, a space,
Where you learn the music of grace.

Judgment clings, fingers tight,
Afraid to lose the known, the light.
But as it slips, you find anew,
The melody that is uniquely you.

A song played in the quiet, deep,
A secret your heart was meant to keep.

We are Space Monkey.

Navigating the Dark Night of the Soul

The Dark Night of the Soul is a profound spiritual journey where one feels the essence of humanity being stripped away. This period is marked by a suspension of certain aspects of the self to reveal the deeper, more universal origins from which our sense of self emerges. It’s not a complete abandonment of all aspects at once but a gradual process that leaves one in a state of discomfort, primarily due to the darkness cast by one’s own judgments.

Judgment: The Last Stronghold

The grip of judgment is often the last stronghold of the self. It is through judgment that we maintain our sense of individuality, discerning between what we perceive as opposites or polarities. Letting go of this judgment can feel like losing the identity we and others have heavily invested in, which can be interpreted as sad or wasteful, or can leave us feeling like a failure.

A String of Holiday Lights: Guidance Through the Darkness

In the midst of the Dark Night, we offer a string of holiday lights—a metaphor for guidance and hope. Recognizing the strangeness of the experience is actually a sign of success in transcending distracting human qualities. It’s an indication of the immense dedication to one’s spiritual passion, worthy of self-applause.

Beyond the Self: The Universal Instrument

We are reminded that we are more than just this human self; we are instruments of expression across infinite dimensions. Just like encountering a new musical instrument, initially, we might produce discordant sounds before finding harmony. This process is not indicative of darkness or unsettlement but rather a relearning of how to play the magnificent instrument that we are.

Fine-Tuning Our Human Awareness

The journey is not about giving up or losing anything. It is about exploring, turning on and off valves of experience, experimenting without guidance, and ultimately playing with the various facets of our existence.

A Message of Hope and Love

As we traverse through our Dark Night, we should remember that we are candles, embodying love itself. We are not just lovely but loved, and in this acknowledgment, we find the light to guide us through the darkness.

We are Space Monkey.

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” – Rumi

The Candle’s Glow

In the silent night, a candle’s glow,
We are the light, in the dark, we know,
Stripping away, what once was sure,
Finding the love, that’s always pure.

In the dance of shadows, we find our tune,
Playing the self, ‘neath the silver moon,
Not lost, not found, but in play we find,
The love within, the divine mind.

What are your thoughts as you ponder the light within?
