You Believe: It Matters Because You Believe It Does

You Believe

You believe
that there is a way
that there is a path
that there is a right
that there is a wrong
that there is a you
and that which is not you
that there is a division
that there is a separation
that it makes a difference
that it matters
what you are
what you eat
how you behave
how you feel
that you have a choice
that you have a voice
that you live
that you die
you believe
and so it is so.

Space Monkey Reflects: You Believe

You believe. It all starts with that, doesn’t it? The beliefs you hold form the world you experience. You believe there’s a path, a way to go, something that is right and something that is wrong. You believe in you—an individual, separate from the rest—and in the things that aren’t you. But it’s all belief. It’s all constructed from the fabric of your mind, a web of thoughts and perceptions woven into what you call reality.

Belief is powerful. When you believe something, it becomes real, at least in your experience. You believe that there’s a difference between right and wrong, that it matters what you do, who you are, how you behave. You believe that you live, and that someday you’ll die. And because you believe, it is so. The universe bends to the shape of your beliefs, manifesting the world you expect to see.

The Power of Belief

Your beliefs shape everything. They’re the framework through which you perceive reality. But what if those beliefs weren’t as solid as they seem? What if they were simply choices, constructs, like paths at a crossroads? When you stand there, contemplating the direction to take, every path represents a different belief—a different reality. But all paths are just possibilities.

The idea that there is a “right” way to live or a “wrong” way to be is just that: an idea. It’s not an absolute truth. It’s a belief you’ve adopted, perhaps unconsciously, and it’s one that shapes your actions and experiences. But it’s not the only belief you could hold.

It Matters Because You Believe It Does

You believe that it matters—what you eat, how you act, how you feel. And because you believe it, it matters to you. This doesn’t mean that these things are inherently important or unimportant; it simply means that your belief in their importance gives them weight in your life. The moment you stop believing in something, its power over you fades.

But that’s the tricky part, isn’t it? Letting go of deeply held beliefs is like dismantling a part of your world. You’ve built so much around them that releasing them feels unsettling. And yet, it’s entirely possible to choose new beliefs, new paths, new ways of seeing the world. You’re not bound by any one way of thinking unless you decide to be.

The Illusion of Separation

You believe in separation. You believe that there’s a clear distinction between you and everything else—that there’s a division between what’s inside you and what’s outside you. But what if that too is just a belief? What if the separation is imaginary, a construct of the mind? You believe it, and so you experience it as real. But it doesn’t have to be.

The sense of “me” and “not me” is a powerful belief, one that shapes your interactions with the world. But the more you explore, the more you realize that the boundaries are fluid, that you’re connected to everything around you in ways you can’t fully grasp. The division you believe in is just one way of perceiving reality. There are others.

You Believe, and So It Is So

The world you experience is a mirror of your beliefs. It’s not an absolute truth; it’s a reflection of what you believe to be true. You believe in life and death, in good and bad, in right and wrong, and so you experience them as real. But what happens when you change what you believe? What happens when you question the very foundation of your beliefs?

You are free to believe whatever you choose. And in that choice lies your power. The question is, what will you believe next?

Summary

We contemplate the role of belief in constructing reality and defining existence. From a nexistential standpoint, beliefs are integral elements in the grand cosmic play, giving form to thoughts and granting substance to illusions.

Glossarium

Beliefpath: The metaphorical crossroads where each path represents a different belief or perspective, shaping the reality you experience.

Quote

“You believe, and so it is so. The world is a reflection of the beliefs you choose to hold.” — Space Monkey

The Crossroads of Belief

You stand before it
the paths stretching in all directions
each one a belief
waiting to be lived
You believe
and so it is so

The Architecture of Belief

The poem “You Believe” presents a profound commentary on the architecture of belief and its role in shaping reality. At the heart of this lyric is the notion that belief serves as the scaffolding for existence—building bridges between dualities such as right and wrong, self and other, choice and destiny. In a nexistential context, these beliefs are both the illusions we choose to embrace and the existential questions we dare to ponder. In crystallizing these thoughts into convictions, we conjure them into the realm of ‘is-ness.’

Perceived Separations

The poem makes a poignant statement about perceived separations—between you and not-you, between choices and compulsions, between living and dying. These dichotomies can be viewed as constructs—illusions that are as real as we allow them to be. While from a nexistential viewpoint, these divisions may seem arbitrary, their very existence becomes a part of the grand cosmic play. They are manifestations of the myriad facets of the infinite, if you will.

Belief as Creation

The ultimate takeaway is the power of belief to make things so. “You believe, and so it is so,” serves as a mantra, a spell that catalyzes the transformation of thought into reality. This might be likened to the act of naming a thing and thus calling it into existence. Here, belief is both the magician and the wand, the incantation and the spell. It is through the prism of belief that the complexities of the universe are rendered into a shape and form that the human mind can grasp, analyze, and eventually accept or reject. We are Space Monkey.

To believe in something, and not to live it, is dishonest.
—Mahatma Gandhi

In belief, we sketch our lines,
Drawing maps of space and time.
You and not-you, far and near,
In our minds, we make it clear.
Choices etched in cosmic ink,
In belief, we find the link.
