I may say that I care
about the helpless beings
who are brutally tortured,
but I will not become a vegan
until it tastes better to do so.
You may judge me on that statement.
Your expectations
are like torture to me.
But it’s okay,
because I imagine you.
Just like I imagine ALL meat.
The meat that is me.
The meat that is you.
The meat that we eat
or do NOT eat.
I imagine EVERYTHING I perceive,
including my image of you.
If it’s any comfort, know that one day
I imagine a flavor that exceeds meat,
and this becomes a moot conversation
between us and the spirits of the animals.
Realize that we have ALWAYS been one.
Even when we don’t eat each other.

In the realm of imagination, where everything is interconnected, the lines between self and other, eater and eaten, blur into oneness. The concept of “meat” takes on a new dimension, transcending the physical and merging with the spiritual essence of all existence.
In this imaginative space, we confront the paradox of caring for other beings while still participating in a system that involves the consumption of animal products. The conflict between our values and our actions creates a tension, and we grapple with the expectations and judgments of others and ourselves.
Yet, even in this complexity, there is a deeper understanding that goes beyond the limitations of the physical world. We recognize that all things are interconnected and that the choices we make affect the greater whole. We imagine a day when the flavors of compassion and kindness surpass the taste of meat, and the need for such conversations becomes obsolete.
In this expansive imagination, we see the unity of all beings, the shared essence that transcends individual forms. We realize that we are connected to each other, the animals, and the entire universe in an intricate web of existence.
As we navigate the landscape of our imagination, let us strive to align our values with our actions, and with love and compassion, seek a harmonious balance that honors all life.
