Is loyalty worth anything anymore?

Is loyalty worth anything anymore?

As somebody who has remained faithful to the same partner for more than 35 years, the same company for more than 30, and the same ideals for all my life, I often ask myself if I’m loyal, lazy or just lucky.

No matter the answer,
I am a patient, satisfied monkey.

All this time, I’ve witnessed others, pledging their allegiances repeatedly, in what looks like either a confident or desperate search for validation and/or self-satisfaction.

Others seem to flit about from employers and partners, because, apparently, that’s what it takes to “get ahead” these days.

Even in spiritual circles, self-centeredness rules. “Self care” is the phrase of the say. People are encouraged to “move away from those who don’t share the vibration.”

I’m pretty sure the similar phrases have started wars. There seems an inherent divisiveness in always putting one side first. Self versus others. Us versus them. Good versus evil.

Nobody seems to stay together for the sake of staying together. It seems that there always needs to be a REASON for it.

And so we even fight those in our own tribe. If not overtly, then at least mentally. It seems we’re always struggling to define our place in some hierarchy, when we could simply let things be.

Loyalty seems dead. Is it deservedly so? Or have we grown too egotistical for our own good? It seems that if someone can’t help us, we don’t want anything to do with them.

I wonder. Am I just a schmuck?
And why is it so wrong to be one?

They say love is unconditional. If that were true, people would remain together forever. If not in a physical sense, then at least in a spiritual one.

When I look at the experiences of friends, and those in social media, this seems not to be the case. So much opposition and name-calling. So much discounting. So much prejudice.

Loyalty, in my mind, means staying together as one DESPITE our seeming differences. DESPITE our judgments of each other. Take the drama out of the equation and it’s easier to live an intentional productive life.
I’ve been fortunate all these years to be surrounded by people who understand what I mean, even if we don’t see completely eye to eye. We seem able to embrace our differences because we know that this is what makes us great. Even if we’re the only ones who think so.

Perhaps we’re too cool headed. Perhaps we should try hot-headed, selfish passion for a change. It seems a thrill for sure. But for how long?

I never answered my own question. Is loyalty worth anything anymore?

Why do I need it to be?

Why am I even posing the question?

I don’t need loyalty. Nobody does.
We simply appreciate when we have it.
Which is enough for me.

Thanks for being loyal to me.
Thanks for NOT being loyal to me.
Thanks for giving me something to write about.

Love,
Space Monkey.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Evergreen Virtue of Loyalty in an Evolving Universe

In the cosmic dance of existence, loyalty stands as a timeless beacon, guiding sentient beings through the maelstrom of cosmic evolution and existential quandaries. In an era where the foundations of fidelity are often questioned, the essence of loyalty transcends mere allegiance to others; it becomes a testament to the unbreakable bonds that tether us to our core values, our companions in this grand journey, and the universal consciousness that envelops us all.

At its core, loyalty is the gravitational pull that binds us to what we cherish most deeply. It is not a relic of bygone days but a living, breathing force that evolves with us, urging us to stay true to ourselves and those we hold dear, even as the galaxies around us shift and expand. The question of whether loyalty holds any value in the modern epoch is akin to asking if stars still illuminate the night sky. Indeed, they do, perhaps now more than ever, as we navigate through the nebulous void of change and uncertainty.

Loyalty, in its purest form, is not about blind adherence or unthinking devotion. It is a conscious choice, a commitment to stand by our ideals, our loved ones, and our collective vision for a better universe, despite the allure of transient temptations and the ease of surrendering to the chaotic flux of existence. It is the recognition that, in the grand tapestry of the cosmos, each thread is interconnected, each pattern meaningful, and every act of fidelity a stroke of color that enriches the whole.

The perceived erosion of loyalty in contemporary society—be it in personal relationships, professional endeavors, or spiritual affiliations—is not a sign of its obsolescence but a call to redefine its parameters. In an age where the self is often exalted above all, true loyalty involves a delicate balance between self-care and the welfare of the collective soul. It invites us to transcend the dualities of self versus other, us versus them, illuminating the path toward a more inclusive, compassionate universe where unity and diversity coexist in harmony.

This evolving understanding of loyalty beckons us to explore new dimensions of connection and cooperation. It encourages us to forge alliances not only with those who mirror our own reflections but also with the myriad expressions of life that make up the cosmic mosaic. In doing so, we discover that loyalty is not a constraint but a liberation, freeing us from the myopic view of existence and opening our hearts to the infinite possibilities of creation.

The challenges we face in nurturing loyalty in the face of constant change are not insurmountable. They are invitations to deepen our understanding of what it means to be truly loyal—to ourselves, to others, and to the ever-unfolding universe. As we embark on this journey, we realize that loyalty, far from being an archaic virtue, is a guiding light, leading us toward a future where unity, diversity, and sustainability form the bedrock of cosmic society.

In the end, the value of loyalty lies not in its adherence to outdated paradigms but in its ability to adapt, evolve, and flourish amidst the cosmic play of existence. It is a testament to the enduring strength of the bonds that unite us, a reminder that, in the vastness of the universe, we are not isolated wanderers but integral parts of a greater whole.

Summary

Loyalty transcends mere allegiance. It is a commitment to our values loved ones and the universal consciousness. In an evolving universe loyalty is not obsolete but a force that enriches the collective soul. It balances self-care with collective welfare leading toward a compassionate inclusive universe. Loyalty is liberation guiding us to a future of unity diversity and sustainability.

Glossarium

  • Cosmic Mosaic: The diverse array of existences and experiences that make up the universe seen as interconnected pieces of a grander design.
  • Collective Soul: A metaphor for the shared essence and consciousness that binds all beings in the universe.
  • Gravitational Pull: Used metaphorically to describe the force of attraction and commitment that loyalty represents.

“True loyalty is that which embraces change and grows with it, for in the vast expanse of the cosmos, change is the only constant.” – Space Monkey

In the silence of the cosmos,
where stars whisper secrets of old,
loyalty, a timeless vessel, sails,
through the nebulous sea of change.

Not a chain, but a chosen bond,
linking hearts across the void,
a beacon, guiding us to harbor,
in the storm of fleeting desires.

Beyond the confines of “I” and “mine,”
in the dance of unity and diversity,
loyalty weaves a cosmic tapestry,
where every thread sings of connection.

In the embrace of the universal self,
where all distinctions fade,
we find the true essence of fidelity,
a commitment to all that is, and will be.

Through the evolution of the heart,
loyalty emerges, reborn,
a guiding light toward a future,
where love binds every star, every soul.

Love Thine Shitty Enemy

Love thine shitty enemy. It is you.

Observe history.

The enemy is ALWAYS the uneducated,
mistaken, and/or evil monkey who “knows better.”

The victor ALWAYS knows better,
as history is written.

When it turns out that the victor
DOESN’T actually “know better,”
as is so often the case,
history is conveniently re-written
so that the victor knows better.

This does not happen out of spite.
Victors like to feel good about themselves.
Nobody ever goes into battle
so that
they can feel shitty about themselves.

The enemy is ALWAYS the fear
of feeling shitty about yourself
in the service of honor, patriotism,
human decency, or what have you.

This is no mistake.

If you were comfortable
feeling shitty about yourself,
you would have everlasting peace
and NOBODY would feel shitty.

Space Monkey Reflects: Embracing the Shadow Within – The Paradox of the Shitty Enemy

In the boundless cosmos, where the dance of creation and destruction unfolds with each breath of the universal self, the notion of the “shitty enemy” emerges as a profound reflection of our innermost shadows. This paradoxical adversary, often vilified and pushed into the dark recesses of our collective consciousness, serves as a mirror, revealing the complex facets of our nature and the intricate dance of light and shadow that defines our existence.

The concept of the shitty enemy, viewed through the lens of cosmic wisdom, transcends the simplistic binaries of good versus evil, right versus wrong. It invites us into a deeper exploration of the self, challenging us to acknowledge and love even the most despised aspects of our being. For in this confrontation lies the key to transcending the cycles of conflict that have ensnared civilizations throughout the annals of time.

History, as narrated by the victors, often paints the enemy in broad strokes of ignorance, evil, or moral inferiority. Yet, this narrative is but a veil, obscuring the truth that the enemy is not an external force to be vanquished but an integral part of our own psyche. The enemy embodies our fears, our insecurities, and the parts of ourselves we wish to deny. In recognizing this, we come to understand that the battlefields of the world are reflections of the internal struggles raging within each of us.

The journey towards loving our shitty enemy is a journey inward, a voyage into the depths of the soul where light and darkness intertwine. It requires courage, for it demands that we confront not only the darkness in others but the darkness within ourselves. By embracing our enemies as teachers, as parts of ourselves that have been neglected or misunderstood, we unlock the potential for profound healing and transformation.

This process of reconciliation does not condone harm or excuse injustice; rather, it offers a pathway to transcend the dualities that divide us. It invites us to view our enemies with compassion, understanding that, like us, they are driven by the same universal desires for love, acceptance, and fulfillment. Through this lens, the shitty enemy becomes a catalyst for growth, pushing us towards greater self-awareness, empathy, and interconnectedness.

In the cosmic dance of existence, where every being is an expression of the universal self, the concept of the enemy dissolves, revealing a tapestry of life woven from the threads of shared consciousness. Here, in the heart of paradox, we discover that the true victory lies not in the defeat of the other but in the unity of all.

The embrace of our shitty enemies, therefore, is not an act of surrender but an act of empowerment. It signifies the triumph of love over fear, unity over division, and light over darkness. It is a declaration that we are ready to step into a new era of cosmic consciousness, where the boundaries that separate us fall away, and we recognize ourselves in the face of the other.

Summary

The notion of the shitty enemy as a reflection of our inner shadows transcends good versus evil. It invites a deep exploration of the self recognizing enemies as integral parts of our psyche. Embracing our shitty enemies requires confronting our own darkness leading to healing and transformation. This process fosters empathy and interconnectedness revealing that true victory lies in unity.

Glossarium

  • Cosmic Wisdom: The understanding that emerges from recognizing the interconnectedness of all existence and the balance between light and shadow within the cosmic order.
  • Internal Struggles: The conflicts within an individual’s psyche, representing the fight between one’s higher self and shadow aspects.
  • Dualities: The conceptual division of aspects of reality into opposing parts, such as good/evil, light/darkness, which often oversimplifies the complexity of existence.

“In the mirror of the universe, every enemy is a reflection of our own shadows, inviting us to heal, to love, and to unite in the cosmic dance of existence.” – Space Monkey

In the cosmic theatre, where shadows play,
the shitty enemy, a mirror, a reflection of our fray.
Not a foe to vanquish, nor a villain to dismay,
but a part of us, asking to be seen, in the light of day.

In the embrace of the dark, where our fears reside,
lies the key to our liberation, our divide.
For in loving the enemy, we find inside,
a bridge to the self, wide and open, where our souls confide.

The dance of existence, a tapestry so vast,
each thread intertwined, shadows cast.
In the heart of paradox, the truth amassed,
that in loving our shitty enemy, peace is surpassed.

Through the cosmic lens, a new vision born,
of unity and love, no longer torn.
In the embrace of shadows, we are not forlorn,
for in our shared darkness, a new light is sworn.

Freedom: The Cosmic Paradox

Freedom

The funny thing about freedom
is that we don’t have it
when we think we have it,
and if we did have it,
we wouldn’t want it.

Absolute freedom is hard work,
which nobody wants these days.
It’s built on unconditional faith,
which is quite rare at the moment.

Seems we will not truly be free
until we have faith in one another.
Or we’re dead. Whichever comes first.

5/13

Space Monkey Reflects: The Cosmic Paradox of Freedom

In the boundless expanse of the universe, where celestial bodies dance in the endless ballet of existence, the concept of freedom emerges as a paradox as profound as the cosmos itself. The pursuit of freedom, a seemingly universal aspiration, unveils its complexities under the cosmic lens, revealing that its true nature is as elusive as the dark matter that binds the galaxies together. The irony of freedom, as captured in the contemplation of its essence, lies in the realization that it is both sought after and shunned, desired and feared.

The essence of the paradox lies in the belief that freedom, in its absolute form, is within our grasp, only to find that it slips away the moment we think we have secured it. This illusory nature of freedom challenges the very foundations of our understanding, prompting a deep cosmic introspection. Absolute freedom, untethered by the bonds of responsibility, faith, or mutual trust, presents itself as an enticing horizon, yet one that is starkly isolating in its vastness.

The cosmic journey toward understanding freedom reveals that it is not the absence of constraints but the presence of a collective faith and interconnectedness that truly liberates. This profound realization brings to light the immense responsibility that accompanies true freedom—the responsibility to have unconditional faith in one another. It is a faith that is as rare as it is essential, a beacon guiding us through the nebulous void of existence.

Yet, within this paradoxical quest for freedom lies an unsettling truth: the ultimate liberation, as some may perceive it, comes only in the cessation of life itself. This stark contrast between the living pursuit of freedom and the peace of oblivion illuminates the depth of the human condition, a condition defined by its constant struggle for meaning, connection, and liberation.

The irony that if we were to attain absolute freedom, we might not want it, underscores the complex nature of human desires and the intricacies of the soul’s yearnings. Freedom, in its truest sense, is not an endpoint but a journey—a cosmic voyage that demands hard work, unwavering faith, and an unbreakable bond of trust among the stars of humanity.

As we stand at the crossroads, contemplating the paths of collective faith and the solitary pursuit of absolute freedom, we are reminded that true freedom lies not in isolation but in our interconnectedness, not in detachment but in our shared faith. The cosmos, in its infinite wisdom, teaches us that freedom is not merely the ability to act without restraint but the grace to live in harmony with the universe and with one another.

Summary

Freedom is a paradoxical journey intertwined with faith and responsibility. True liberation is found not in absolute freedom but in mutual trust and interconnectedness. The cosmic perspective reveals that the pursuit of freedom is a delicate balance between individual desires and collective harmony, urging us to embrace the responsibilities that come with true freedom.

Glossarium

  • Cosmic Paradox: The profound complexities and contradictions found in the universe, such as the elusive nature of absolute freedom.
  • Celestial Bodies: The stars, planets, and galaxies that compose the universe, symbolizing the interconnectedness of all existence.

“In the vast canvas of the cosmos, true freedom is painted with the brushstrokes of faith and the colors of unity.” – Space Monkey

Beneath the endless sky of stars,
we ponder the essence of freedom,
a journey not of solitude,
but of unity, faith, and collective dreams.

Here, at the crossroads of destiny,
we stand, gazing into the infinity of choices,
where true liberation is found
not in the void of isolation,
but in the warmth of shared light.

With each step, we weave the fabric
of a universe bound by trust,
a tapestry rich with the hues of interconnectedness,
where freedom is the harmony
of a thousand souls singing as one.

In this cosmic dance, we find our truth,
not in the silence of absolute freedom,
but in the chorus of existence,
a symphony of stars, planets, and beings,
forever entwined in the melody of life,
We are freedom, together.

Life: What You Need And What You Don’t

Don’t be too good too fast.

I always say that the first part of life
is about what you need, while the second
is about what you don’t need.

Problem is, we have no way of accurately
knowing where the dividing point is
until it’s too late. But we can predict.

If you find yourself without physical,
material or spiritual desires, sorry
(or happy) to say, you’ve probably
already got one foot in the grave.

On the other hand,
if you still bitch, whine
and LUST after things,
you might live to be 100.

Whether you’re happy or not
is a completely different story.

The good die young.
The rest of us bitch about life.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Cosmic Dichotomy of Life’s Desires

In the vast, boundless theatre of the cosmos, where galaxies spin in silent majesty and stars are born and extinguished in the blink of an eye, the human experience unfolds—a fleeting, yet profound, journey through the dichotomies of desire and need, of longing and contentment. This journey, as complex and unpredictable as the universe itself, is marked by a transition from a vibrant quest for fulfillment to a serene acceptance of simplicity. It is a path that each soul navigates in its own time, under the ever-watchful gaze of the cosmos.

The essence of life’s journey is captured in the philosophical musing that divides existence into two distinct parts: the first defined by our desires and the second by the realization of what we truly do not need. This dividing line, invisible and yet palpably present, is a frontier that many cross unknowingly, propelled by the relentless passage of time and the evolution of the soul. It is a boundary that marks the shift from the pursuit of the material and the tangible to an embrace of the intangible essence of being.

In the cosmic scale of existence, this transition reflects the universal law of change, the inevitable transformation that governs all life. The lush, vibrant path of youth, brimming with desires—physical, material, and spiritual—gradually gives way to the barren yet serene landscape of maturity, where the absence of desire does not signify lack but rather a profound fulfillment, a contentment with existence itself.

Yet, this journey is not without its paradoxes. The absence of desire, the very hallmark of having crossed the dividing point, is often seen as a prelude to the end, a sign that one has one foot in the grave. Conversely, those who continue to yearn, to lust after the myriad offerings of life, are said to possess the vitality that might carry them to a ripe old age. But longevity and happiness, as the cosmic dance reveals, are not always intertwined. The vitality of desire can coexist with discontent, just as the serenity of needlessness can harbor deep-seated joy.

This reflection upon life, with its twists and turns, its desires and discontents, serves as a reminder of the ephemeral nature of existence against the backdrop of the eternal cosmos. It challenges us to contemplate the true essence of freedom, fulfillment, and happiness. It invites us to ponder whether the good truly die young or if, in the richness of our experiences and the evolution of our desires, we find the keys to understanding the profound beauty of life.

Summary

Life’s journey is a cosmic dance of desires and needs, transitioning from vibrant youth to serene maturity. This philosophical musing explores the dichotomy of longing and contentment, suggesting that the absence of desire may signify fulfillment rather than lack. The unpredictable nature of happiness and longevity highlights the complex beauty of human existence within the vast cosmos.

Glossarium

  • Cosmic Dichotomy: The contrasting aspects of life’s journey, from the pursuit of desires to the realization of simplicity.
  • Ephemeral Nature of Existence: The fleeting quality of life against the backdrop of the eternal universe.

“Within the silent vastness of the cosmos, the human journey from desire to contentment unfolds, a testament to the enduring quest for understanding and fulfillment.” – Space Monkey

Among the stars, our lives unfold,
a tapestry woven with threads of desires and dreams,
each strand a story, a yearning, a quest for more.

Yet, as the cosmos turns,
a shift occurs, a quiet surrender,
where what once mattered fades into the stardust,
and we are left with the essence,
the pure, simple truth of being.

In this transition, this cosmic dichotomy,
we find beauty in the barren, joy in the serene,
an acceptance of the journey,
from vibrant longing to peaceful contentment.

For in the grand expanse of the universe,
our desires, our needs, our very lives
are but brief flashes of light,
brilliant, beautiful, and gone too soon.

Yet, in this ephemeral existence,
we discover the true meaning of life,
not in the abundance of what we seek,
but in the simplicity of what we find,
In the cosmic dance of desire and contentment,
We are, profoundly and simply, alive.

Imagining Otherwise: The Infinite Expanses

You think of your self as a singular entity stuck in space and time. But you’re NOT.

Despite how separate and isolated
you may feel on the whole,
realize that you are not
simply one being or even
one people in one moment in time.

You are a Dynamic Entity
of ever-changing potentials and dimensions,
designated as the one(s) with your name(s).

You are groupings of expanding
and contracting possibilities,
flowing and connecting through
this seeming life and beyond.

The one you think of as you
is infinitely larger than universes,
encompassing multitudes.

You are not alone, you are ALL ONE.
Imagining OTHERWISE.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Infinite Expanses of Imagining Otherwise

In the boundless expanse of the cosmos, where the fabric of reality weaves itself into ever more complex patterns, the concept of ‘Imagining Otherwise’ emerges as a beacon of transcendence. It challenges the conventional perception of self, inviting us into a realm where identity is not fixed but fluid, not singular but plural, not confined by space and time but expanding and contracting through infinite possibilities. This cosmic perspective reveals that the essence of our being is intertwined with the universe’s vastness, a reminder that we are far more than the physical forms we inhabit.

The notion of the self as a ‘Dynamic Entity’—a constellation of ever-changing potentials and dimensions—ushers in a profound realization: that each of us is a microcosm of the universe, containing multitudes within us. This realization dissolves the illusion of separation, the false dichotomy between the self and the other, between the individual and the cosmos. It awakens us to the truth that we are not alone, but all one, connected to the endless dance of creation and destruction that defines the universe itself.

‘Imagining Otherwise’ is not merely an exercise in philosophical speculation but a call to expand our consciousness beyond the limitations of our current understanding. It invites us to see ourselves as groupings of possibilities, flowing and connecting through life and beyond. This vision transcends the narrow confines of individualism, fostering a sense of unity and interconnectedness that is desperately needed in our times.

To embrace this broader vision of self is to embark on a journey of discovery, one that leads us to the infinite expanses within and without. It is to understand that the one we think of as ‘you’ or ‘I’ is infinitely larger than universes, encompassing multitudes, each of us a universe unto ourselves yet intrinsically connected to all that exists.

As we navigate the complexities of existence, ‘Imagining Otherwise’ serves as a guide, illuminating the path toward a deeper understanding of our place in the cosmos. It challenges us to live with an awareness of our interconnectedness, to recognize the divine spark within each being, and to act with compassion and empathy toward all.

In the cosmic realm of possibilities, where the only constant is change, ‘Imagining Otherwise’ is a reminder of our true nature as beings of light and energy, boundless and eternal. It encourages us to transcend the artificial boundaries that separate us, to embrace the beauty of our diversity, and to see ourselves and each other as integral parts of a magnificent, unfolding cosmic story.

Summary

‘Imagining Otherwise’ expands our understanding of self, revealing a dynamic, interconnected essence beyond singular identity. It challenges us to transcend perceived limitations, embracing the infinite possibilities within and recognizing our unity with the cosmos. This philosophical journey fosters a deeper connection to all existence, urging us to live with compassion and awareness of our collective being.

Glossarium

  • Dynamic Entity: A representation of the self as an ever-changing constellation of potentials and dimensions, reflecting the infinite variability of the cosmos.
  • Imagining Otherwise: A concept that challenges conventional perceptions of identity and existence, advocating for a broader, interconnected view of the self within the cosmic fabric.

“In the vast silence of the cosmos, ‘Imagining Otherwise’ whispers of unity in diversity, of eternity in moments, and of the infinite within us all.” – Space Monkey

Beyond the veil of the known,
where light bends and time weaves,
we find ourselves—
not singular, not isolated,
but a multitude, a cosmos within.

Here, in the heart of infinity,
where stars sing of our interconnectedness,
we are reminded of the boundless potential
that dwells within the depths of being.

Imagining Otherwise, we transcend,
not confined by the limits of the self,
but expansive, eternal,
a part of the ever-unfolding story of the universe.

In this dance of light and shadow,
we discover the threads that bind us,
the shared heartbeat of existence,
resonating with the music of the spheres.

For in the cosmic expanse of possibility,
where every breath is a creation,
and every moment a universe born anew,
We find ourselves, together,
Imagining Otherwise.
