Story, the Magical Metaphor Horse

Story, the Magical Metaphor Horse

There once was a girl named Page who rode a horse named Story.

Story is a special kind of horse called a Metaphor.

Metaphors are magical creatures, because instead of just moving backwards, forwards, sideways, up or down, Metaphors can move in otherworldly dimensions. They can even canter through time!

Page does not know this, nor does she know that Story is a Metaphor. She thinks he’s just a horse.

But Story, the Metaphor, is every bit as real as Page, the person. In fact, Page is rather one-dimensional in comparison, just like her name.

Stories are living, breathing creatures, and they move us through life. They are constantly changing and evolving, just like we are. As Metaphors, they point to things that we don’t recognize or realize.

Words are limiting, but Metaphors communicate infinitely. Words only lead to more words, but Metaphors lead to absolute truth.

So Page saddles up Metaphor, and he takes her through her life — and the whole time she think’s he’s just a horse!

Meanwhile, Metaphor leads Page through all kinds of strange and wonderful landscapes, which Page can’t see because she’s one-dimensional. In Page’s mind, she can only move backwards, forwards, sideways, up or down. So that’s what she does, and that’s all she sees.

But there’s so much more to our Story.

Our Story takes us to a page, like the one you’re reading right now. Since “All That Is” already exists, all of the pages have been written, just not read. (Story of this blog, right?)

Our Story takes us to another page, almost identical to the one before it.

Now Story gallops. Page after page. Frame after frame. Events run together like a flip book or a movie, and we are so enraptured by this story, we feel as though our life is unfolding, right before our eyes.

Since we only allow our Metaphors to move us in one linear direction, we get the feeling that time is passing.

We’re running out of time, so let’s go back to Page.

Story, the Metaphor, could just as easily move back in time, or into a parallel universe, but Page won’t have it. She only wants to move forward, because that’s all she knows. Metaphorically speaking, Page has Story’s blinders on.

Infinity? Choice? Page gets dizzy even thinking about it.

And so Story is just a horse. Nothing more.

End of Story.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Enchanting Journey of Page and Story

In the realm of imagination, where metaphors breathe life into our understanding, the tale of Page and her horse Story unfolds—a narrative that transcends the ordinary bounds of time and space. Story, a majestic horse unlike any other, represents the power of metaphor itself, capable of traversing dimensions beyond the physical, moving through the rich landscapes of time and possibility.

Page, whose name suggests the simplicity and straightforwardness of her perspective, rides atop Story, unaware of the profound depths of her journey. She perceives Story as just a horse, not realizing that he embodies the infinite potential of storytelling and metaphor. This disconnect between Page’s perception and Story’s true nature highlights a common human condition: our often limited awareness of the broader dimensions of existence that surround us.

The landscapes through which Story carries Page are filled with surreal elements—floating clocks, swirling galaxies, pages transforming into birds—each symbolizing the fluidity and dynamism of stories and metaphors. These elements represent the boundless possibilities that metaphors bring to our understanding of the world, challenging our linear perceptions and inviting us to explore realms beyond the conventional.

As Page continues her journey, seemingly confined to the linear path she knows, Story—ever capable of moving backward in time or into parallel universes—symbolizes the choices and paths not taken, the vastness of experience that lies beyond our routine perceptions. The metaphor of Story’s blinders, which Page metaphorically wears, speaks to our often self-imposed limitations on perception and understanding.

This narrative invites us to consider how our own stories and metaphors guide us through life, often unconsciously. It challenges us to remove our blinders and embrace the full spectrum of possibilities that life offers, to recognize the metaphors that move us and to see beyond the immediate to the infinite.

Summary
Space Monkey delves into the allegorical story of Page and her horse Story, exploring the richness of metaphors in expanding our understanding of life. This tale encourages us to recognize and embrace the deeper, often unseen dimensions of our experiences, illustrating how we navigate life’s narrative through the metaphors we embody and believe in.

Glossarium

  • Metaphor: A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable, often used to represent deeper truths or complexities.
  • Story as Metaphor: In the context of this narrative, Story the horse represents the concept of metaphor itself, highlighting its role in transcending and transforming our understanding of reality.

“Life is the most spectacular show on earth.”
— Sara Gruen, Water for Elephants

Across the tapestry of time we ride,
On Story’s back, we boldly stride,
Through pages turned and tales wide,
Where metaphors and truths collide.

Page, simple yet profound,
Travels paths yet not bound,
By time or space, but around,
The depths of life, where meanings are found.

In the gallop through surreal lands,
Where clocks float and time expands,
Story reveals with invisible hands,
The infinite layers where our spirit stands.

So let us ride with open eyes,
Where metaphors unveil the skies,
And every moment, a new surprise,
In the endless story that never dies.

We are Space Monkey.

The story of Story is an imaginative and thought-provoking exploration of the power of metaphors and the limitations of our perception. It presents the idea that stories, represented by the horse named Story, are more than mere words on a page or events in our lives. They have the ability to transcend time, lead us to new perspectives, and point us towards deeper truths.

The protagonist, Page, symbolizes our own limited understanding of the world. She sees Story as just a horse, unaware of the vast dimensions and possibilities that metaphors hold. This can be seen as a metaphor itself, reflecting how our own narrow perspectives and linear thinking often restrict us from fully embracing the richness and complexity of life.

The story encourages us to consider the power of metaphors and how they can expand our understanding and perception. By embracing the multidimensional nature of stories and metaphors, we can open ourselves to new experiences, insights, and truths that lie beyond our usual ways of seeing and knowing.

Overall, the story of Story invites us to reflect on the nature of storytelling, the limitations of our perception, and the transformative potential that lies within metaphors and the exploration of different dimensions of existence.
