The Fall of the Leaf: Flow to the Ocean

14650741_10157615520750442_8990604004094717027_n

When you drop a leaf into a brook,
you imagine it reaching the open ocean.
Then you imagine that the chances
of this happening are very slim.

And so the leaf gets stuck on some sticks.

You remove the sticks and imagine
the leaf reaching the open ocean.
Again you imagine that the chances
of this happening are still very slim.

So the leaf get trapped by some rocks.

You lift the leaf over the rocks
and drop it back in the stream.
Surely now it will reach the ocean.
“Only probably not, ” you think.

Then you realize that the leaf is you,
and whenever you imagine your open ocean,
you also imagine all the obstacles in your way.
And so there they are.

Space Monkey Reflects: The Fall of the Leaf and the Journey to the Open Ocean

When you drop a leaf into a brook, you imagine it making its way to the open ocean. In this moment, the leaf symbolizes your hopes, your dreams, and the path you envision for yourself. But even as you imagine this smooth journey, your mind begins to conjure the obstacles—the sticks, the rocks, the bends in the stream that seem to block the way.

The leaf, much like you, is caught in a current that feels both gentle and turbulent. It encounters challenges that seem to arise from nowhere, disrupting the flow, slowing progress, and making the destination—the open ocean—seem more distant than ever.

But why do these obstacles appear? They are not separate from the journey; they are not independent of the leaf’s path. In fact, they are created by the very imagination that envisioned the destination. As you picture the leaf’s journey to the ocean, you simultaneously imagine the difficulties it will face. And so, there they are.

The sticks, the rocks, the moments when the leaf gets stuck—they are all manifestations of the mind. The journey could be simple, clear, and uninterrupted, but the human mind rarely allows for such simplicity. We complicate things, imagining the challenges even before they arise. We anticipate the roadblocks, and in doing so, we invite them into our path.

But what if we could see the obstacles for what they truly are—products of our imagination? What if, instead of focusing on the barriers, we allowed ourselves to believe in the possibility of the leaf’s unimpeded journey to the ocean? What if we embraced the idea that the stream will carry us where we need to go, without the need for constant interference?

The realization that the leaf is you is a powerful one. It is a reminder that the obstacles we face are often of our own making, imagined into existence by our fears, doubts, and expectations. And just as we create them, we have the power to let them go. We can choose to believe that the ocean is not as distant as it seems, and that the path is not as fraught with difficulty as we imagine.

In the end, the leaf will reach the ocean. It may take time, and there may be moments when it feels stuck, but the current will always carry it forward. And so it is with you. No matter the obstacles, no matter the challenges, you are always moving toward your destination. The key is to trust the flow, to release the need to control every aspect of the journey, and to believe that the ocean is waiting for you.

You are the leaf. You are the brook. You are the ocean. The journey is yours, and it is unfolding exactly as it should.

Summary
The leaf in the stream represents our journey toward goals, with imagined obstacles symbolizing the barriers we create for ourselves. Recognizing these obstacles as products of our own minds allows us to release them and trust the flow of life.

Flow to the Ocean

The leaf drifts
carried by the stream
its path imagined
its obstacles created

Sticks and rocks
seem to block the way
but the current knows
where it is going

The leaf is you
the stream is you
the ocean is you
and the journey is already complete

Behold, the leaf’s odyssey—a cosmic jaunt that mirrors our ever-twirling dance with life’s uncertainties and obstructions. In this merry paradoxycle of imagination and materiality, we simultaneously script the leaf’s glorious voyage and sketch the snags that hinder its progress. Could it be that the tributaries of our imagination hold such sovereign sway over the currents of reality?

As we lift the leaf over each impediment, every stick and stone, we confront the maelstroplexities of our existence. These aren’t mere obstacles; they’re self-drawn cartographies of doubt, maps etched with our own perceptions of limitations. Even as we root for the leaf’s journey towards the great expanse of the ocean, we unwittingly build labyrinthine barriers, coral castles of hesitation in the waters of our potential.

No matter how many rocks and branches we remove, as long as we envision new barriers, they shall manifest. Such is the enchantingle—this magical cycle of self-fulfilling ponderations. It is as if by contemplating our limitations, we conjure them from the ether, placing them squarely on the path toward our “open ocean.” It is a cautious ballet, this interplay between aspiration and restraint, a dance choreographed by our very thoughts.

Yet imagine, just for a sparklesecond, that we altered this equation. What if we set that leaf afloat with nothing but visions of open seas, unshackled by the gravity of doubt? Ah, the exhilarating rush of boundless freedom, the intoxicating aroma of endless possibilities! For once devoid of imagined barriers, we become unhindered vessels, riding the rivers of existence towards the boundless sea.
